SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Melvin D. "Bud" Matherly, Jr. of Coal
4Valley, who passed away on April 14, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Melvin Matherly, Jr. was born in Davenport, Iowa
6to Melvin Dale, Sr. and Eva Rae Grams Matherly on January 15,
71948; he married Emma Lee Woods in Rock Island on July 8, 1968
8and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Melvin Matherly, Jr. owned Matherly Flowers and
11Gifts in Coal Valley; he also sold antiques and did furniture
12restoring; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Melvin Matherly, Jr. enjoyed church and his family
14was his life; he also enjoyed woodworking, bicycling, yardwork,
15flowers, and nature; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Melvin Matherly, Jr. was preceded in death by his
17father and his sister, Susan Peterson; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Melvin Matherly, Jr. is survived by his wife, Lee;
19his children, Jessica (Dustin) Brown, Jeremiah Matherly, and
20Jason Matherly; his granddaughters, Bailey, Heidi, and

1Cassandra Brown; his mother; and his sisters, Sheri Williams,
2Barbara Schmidt, and Beverly (Bill) Coolidge; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Melvin D. "Bud" Matherly, Jr., and extend our sincere
6condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
7him; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Melvin Matherly, Jr. as an
10expression of our deepest sympathy.
