SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois believes that in order for
3Illinois to continue to grow and thrive, we need to make sure
4that children and young people have the support, resources and
5experiences that they themselves need to grow and thrive; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Illinoisans need to align behind a comprehensive
7vision of success for children and young people; and
 
8    WHEREAS, To achieve this vision, we need children and young
9people who have positive connections to family, community, and
10friends, opportunities to take leadership in culturally and
11environmentally robust communities, and resources for avoiding
12behaviors in the community associated with disconnection and
13harm; who are ready for school and experience academic success;
14who are able to grow up in and contribute to stable families
15and safe communities; who have their basic needs met in the
16context of their families and community, including the basic
17needs of food, clothing, shelter, basic security, and a family
18in which to belong; who have good health and strong health
19habits; and have the necessary skills and dispositions to
20obtain employment and continue on a path to a secure financial
21future; and
 
22    WHEREAS, In Illinois, we have the abilities, expertise, and

1partnerships necessary to align and integrate our efforts
2around a comprehensive vision for success for children and
3youth; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Positive youth development is the result of these
5efforts; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The benefits of positive youth development
7include success in school, but extend beyond that to include
8healthy development, positive relationships, and civic
9engagement; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Positive youth development opportunities are
11critical to the future success of children and young people,
12and of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate April 13,
152016 as Positive Youth Development Day in Illinois as a sign of
16our collective commitment to providing children and young
17people with the support, experiences, and opportunities they
18need to be connected, educated, healthy, thriving, safe, and
19employable; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That we show our commitment to positive youth
21development and to achieving a vision of success for children
