SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kathleen Steverson "Kathy" Cowan, who
4passed away on January 19, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan was born in Chicago to Joseph and
6Juanita Drayton on February 3, 1947; she attended Chicago
7Public Schools and received her nursing degree from Malcom X
8School of Nursing in 1974; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan worked in different healthcare
10facilities for 32 years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan was a member of St. Michael
12Missionary Baptist Church; she enjoyed sewing, decorating,
13traveling, and watching old movies; she was known for always
14loving and encouraging her kids and grandkids; she was
15affectionately known by her great-grandchildren as "Na Na"; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan was preceded in death by her
17husband of 68 years, Fred Cowan; her father, Joseph; her
18stepdad, Johnny Turner; and her daughter, Cherise; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Kathleen Cowan is survived by her beloved and
20devoted mother, Juanita Gibson; her daughter and best friend,

1Michelle (Hosea) Drayton; her daughters, Sasheen and Yasmin
2(Richard); her 3 sons, Michael (Danielle), Eugene, and Devin;
3her 13 grandchildren, Iesha, Anthony, Kylan, Khali, Raven,
4Mykal, Morgan, Mason, Ryan, Malichi, Mariah, Chase, and Carter;
5her 4 great-grandchildren, Richard, Jeremiah, Heaven, and
6Sashae; her sister, Betty Henderson; her niece, Sherondra; her
7nephew, Nicholas; her 2 aunts; her 3 uncles; and a host of
8cousins and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Kathleen Steverson "Kathy" Cowan, and extend our sincere
12condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Kathleen Cowan as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
