SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harry Orr, Jr. of Moline, who passed away
4on December 6, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was born in East Moline on June 24,
61924 to Harry, Sr. and Vera Williams Orr; he graduated from
7United Township High School in 1942 and enlisted in the United
8States Navy, earning 5 battle stars for his service in the
9Pacific Theater during World War II; he later graduated from
10the Bradley School of Horology; he married Beverly Stratton on
11September 8, 1946 in East Moline; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was the owner and operator of Harry
13Orr Jewelers for 45 years, retiring in December of 1999; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was very involved in his community,
15serving in various public positions, including: the Rock Island
16Police and Fire Commission, the State of Illinois Law
17Enforcement Commission, the Illinois State Police Merit Board,
18the Rock Island Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Senior Chamber
19of Commerce, the Young Republicans, and the Polio Foundation of
20Rock Island County; he was also a member of the Tebala Shrine
21(Rockford); the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 129; Trio Lodge
22No. 57, A.F. & A.M.; the Scottish Rite Valley of Moline; the

1Royal Arch; he was a member of American Legion Post 227 in East
2Moline; he received several awards for his involvement,
3including the Meritorious Service Medal from the Illinois State
4Police and the Distinguished Service Award from the Rock Island
5Junior Chamber of Commerce; he was recognized by the Boy Scouts
6of America for Meritorious Service; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. was preceded in death by his
8parents; his wife, Beverly; his son, Steven; and his grandson,
9Jeremiah; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Harry Orr, Jr. is survived by his son, Jeffery
11(Jeanette) Orr; his grandchildren, Mitchell Orr, Nicholas Orr,
12and Katelyn Orr; and his 2 great-grandchildren, Jillian and
13Spencer Orr; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Harry Orr, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Harry Orr, Jr. as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
