SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ralph W. Burkhead of Canon City,
4Colorado, formerly of Rock Island, who passed away on October
514, 2015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ralph Burkhead was born October 15, 1924 in
7Kalamazoo, Michigan; his parents were Fred and Dorothy Timm
8Burkhead; he married Lorna McDougall on July 16, 1949 in
9Ottawa; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ralph Burkhead was a World War II United States
11Marine Corps veteran; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ralph Burkhead retired as a line supervisor from
13Illinois Bell Telephone, where he worked for 36 years; he also
14worked part-time for the Reynolds Phone Company, of which he
15was a part owner; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ralph Burkhead was a member of St. Pius X Catholic
17Church in Rock Island and the Telephone Pioneers of America; he
18was an accomplished fast pitch softball pitcher and played well
19into his 70's; he also enjoyed camping, working in the yard,
20and washing cars; and

1    WHEREAS, Ralph Burkhead was preceded in death by his wife,
2Lorna; his parents; and his brothers, Edward and Jerome
3Burkhead; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ralph Burkhead is survived by his children, Sherry
5Tonish, Daniel (Jan) Burkhead, Lynette (Scott) Grabau, Scot
6Burkhead (fiancee, Regina Cimino), and Laurie Burkhead; his
7grandchildren, Shawn (Tonia) Sutton, Ryan Sutton, Emily
8Tonish, Zach (Amanda) Burkhead, Sam Burkhead, Kimberly Grabau,
9and Tony Grabau; his great-grandchildren, Breezyn and Lily
10Sutton and Kayden Burkhead; his sister, Joan Hancks; his
11brother, David Burkhead; and his sister-in-law, Edith Brown;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
15family and friends, mourn the passing of Ralph W. Burkhead; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Ralph Burkhead as an expression of
19our sympathy.
