SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard N. "Dick" Gage of Rock Island,
4who passed away on October 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Gage was born on April 25, 1923 in Ute,
6Iowa; his parents were Robert Dinsmore Gage and Edith Grieser
7Gage; he married Gladys L. Cutsinger on August 17, 1946 in
8Sheldon, Iowa; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Gage graduated from Wilson High School in
10Cherokee, Iowa; he later attended Sheldon Junior College and
11graduated from the University of Iowa; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Richard Gage served as a journalist for 21 years
13at the WHBF radio and television stations, where he served as
14assistant news director and editorialist; he also served as
15public affairs director and conducted the discussion program,
16At Issue, for the WHBF television station; he earlier worked as
17a reporter and political columnist for the Rock Island Argus
18and editor of The Target, the newspaper of the United States
19Army Weapons Command at Rock Island Arsenal; in the early days
20of television, he wrote a column for TV Guide; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Richard Gage was president of the National

1Broadcast Editorial Association and secretary of the First
2Amendment Congress; he served as a volunteer associate for
3Pathway Hospice; he was also a member and secretary of the
4essay organization, Contemporary Club; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Gage served as a pilot with the United
6States Army Air Forces with the Fifteenth Air Force in Italy
7during World War II; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Richard Gage was preceded in death by his parents;
9his wife, Gladys; and his brother, Robert Dinsmore Gage, Jr.;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Richard Gage is survived by his son, Douglas; his
12daughters, Suzann (Jeanette Kangas), Rebecca (Mark)
13Montgomery, and Laura (James) Daab; and his granddaughters,
14Jane Stout and Emily Stout; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
17family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard N. "Dick"
18Gage; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Richard Gage as an expression of our
21sympathy.
