SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Tanya Uvon Coursey; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Tanya Coursey, affectionately known as "Ms.
5Coursey", was born on September 23, 1967; she graduated from
6Carrie Jacobs Bond Elementary School in 1981 and Paul Robeson
7High School in 1985; she obtained an associate degree from
8Richard J. Daley College in child development in 1990, a
9bachelor's degree from Chicago State University in education in
102005, a master's degree with honors in teaching from National
11Louis University in 2008, earning a teaching certificate
12(pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade), a second master's degree
13with honors in education from National Louis University in
142012, earning an administrative certificate (school
15administration/supervision), and an honorary doctorate in
16educational leadership from National Louis University in 2014;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Tanya Coursey worked in the Head Start department
19at Carrie Jacobs Bond Elementary School for 25 years; she also
20worked at the Effie O'Ellis Child Development Lab School and
21served as the Disciplinarian and Program Coordinator at the
22after school program at Carrie Jacobs Bond Elementary School;
23and

1    WHEREAS, Tanya Coursey served as an executive board member
2for the Englewood Achievers Block Club Incorporated (72nd
3Place); she was also the special events coordinator from 2002
4until her passing; she was a member of Sacred Heart Church and
5later St. Sabina Church, where she sung with the Voices of St.
6Sabina choir; she was most recently a member of New Life
7Worship Center; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Tanya Coursey was preceded in death by her mother,
9Dorothea Hazeldine Coursey, and her 2 uncles, Robert Coursey
10and Calvin Coursey; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Tanya Coursey is survived by her sons, Thomas and
12Lawrence Coursey; her sister, Tasha Baker (Edward); her
13grandchildren, Thomas, Jr., Layah, and Tamiya; her 2 nieces,
14Tanea and Tajha Igess; her nephew, Shan Igess, Jr.; her 2
15aunts, Carol and Gloria Coursey; her uncle, Johnathan Coursey;
16her 3 Godsons, Armani, Anfernee, and Anthony Couch, Jr.; and a
17host of relatives and close friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Tanya Uvon Coursey, and extend our sincere condolences to her
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
