SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harlan E. Johannsen of Morrison, who
4passed away on September 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harlan Johannsen was born on April 18, 1928 in
6Sabula, Iowa; his parents were Otto H. and Anna M. (nee
7Ingwersen) Johannsen; he married Wilma Medendorp on September
819, 1964 at Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Harlan Johannsen served in the United States Army
10during the Korean War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Harlan Johannsen was educated in Miles, Iowa grade
12schools and was a graduate of Miles High School; he began
13farming in the Miles, Iowa area; in 1956, he moved to Morrison,
14where he continued to farm; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Harlan Johannsen was a member of Emmanuel Reformed
16Church in Morrison and the Whiteside County Farm Bureau; he was
17a life member of over 60 continuous years of the Morrison
18American Legion Post #328, where he served as commander and as
19the Whiteside County Commander for the American Legion; while
20at the American Legion, he also served on the firing squad,
21marched in parades for Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and

1placed flags on veterans' gravesites on Veterans Day in several
2Whiteside County cemeteries; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Harlan Johannsen was preceded in death by his
4parents and his sister, Rojean Duben; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harlan Johannsen is survived by his wife, Wilma;
6his son, Keith (Amy) Johannsen; his grandsons, Kelby and Avery
7Johannsen; and his sister, Donna Loomis; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
10family and friends, mourn the passing of Harlan E. Johannsen;
11and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Harlan Johannsen as an expression of
14our sympathy.
