SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sadie Frances Picarda, who passed away on
4June 25, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda was born on January 24, 1929 to
6Gonzie and Lola Coleman; she attended Coleman Elementary School
7and Dunbar Vocational High School, where she majored in
8dressmaking; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda used her vocational dressmaking
10skills throughout her extensive working career with Wilson
11Garments; during her time there, she served as President of her
12Local International Ladies Garment Workers Union; she advanced
13to become Head Sample Dressmaker, retiring in 1992; after
14retirement, she remained active and continued in her chosen
15profession, teaching dressmaking in her home and making
16countless garments for herself and for proms, weddings, fashion
17shows, and special occasions; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda enjoyed spending time with her -
19family and friends; she loved exploring new places and
20attending cultural and art events; she traveled to Europe, the
21Caribbean, and various locations throughout the United States;
22she was a long-time member of the Chicago Sinfonietta and The

1Chicago Art Institute; she loved to entertain and cook, and on
2any given weekend, she could be found entertaining friends and
3family; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda is survived by her siblings, Helen
5Dawson, Dorothy Green, and Danny Robinson; her children, Eric
6Coleman, Sheila Collins, Robert Davenport, Tyrone Dalton, and
7Jerome Dalton; her grandchildren, Marla Coleman Wiley (Ryan),
8Jeree Dalton, and Tyrah Dalton; her great-grandson, Ryan G.
9Wiley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Sadie Frances Picarda, and extend our sincere condolences to
14her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Sadie Picarda as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
