SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Laverna L. Nichols of Peoria, who passed
4away on May 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Laverna Nichols was born in Peoria on July 13,
61918 to Clyde and Bernice (nee Hampton) Short; she graduated
7from Kingman High School in Peoria and married Merle E. Nichols
8on December 19, 1936 in Eureka; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Laverna Nichols worked as a banquet waitress for
10the Pere Marquette Hotel and Jefferson Hotel; she later became
11desk manager of the Jefferson Hotel for many years; she last
12worked at Jumer's Castle Lodge for 6 years, retiring in 1993;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Laverna Nichols was a longtime member of First
15United Methodist Church in Peoria; she was active in the Order
16of the Eastern Star and in mothers' clubs; she enjoyed bowling,
17baking cookies, and making candles; she was a true homemaker
18with a green thumb; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Laverna Nichols was preceded in death by her
20husband, Merle; her parents; her infant brother; and her
21sister, Betty Babcock; and

1    WHEREAS, Laverna Nichols is survived by her son, Jerry
2(Barbara) Nichols; her daughters, Judith (Alan) Aaron and
3Jacqueline Nichols; her 7 grandchildren, Catherine (James)
4Tarrant, Craig (Lani) Nichols, Christina (Randy) Reidl,
5Michelle Aaron (Stephen Hope), Lara Aaron (William Robert
6Johnson), Jacqueline (Billie) Cain, and Stephanie (Daniel)
7Nicholson; her 10 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Brittany, Kevin,
8Coty, Maximillian, Sydney Rose, Emma Noel, Ashley, Tuesday, and
9Matthew; her great-great-grandson, Owen; and several nieces
10and nephews; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Laverna L. Nichols, and extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Laverna Nichols as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
