SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Wilburn "Mac" Sanders, who passed away on
4April 9, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wilburn Sanders was born on July 7, 1932 in
6Chicago; his parents were Henry Sanders and Emma Emily Hunt
7Sanders; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Wilburn Sanders grew up in the Morgan Park
9community and attended John D. Shoop Elementary School and
10Morgan Park High School, where he excelled in sports, including
11baseball and basketball; during his childhood, he attended Beth
12Eden Baptist Church with his siblings; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After high school, Wilburn Sanders worked for a
14brief time at the Ford Motor Company assembly plant; in 1952,
15he was drafted into the United States Army, serving during the
16height of the Korean War; after his discharge from the Army, he
17continued working at the Ford plant until 1956, when he joined
18the Chicago Police Department; he served at the Department with
19distinction until his retirement in 1986; he then worked in
20security for the McCormick Place Convention Center until his
21final retirement in 1996; and

1    WHEREAS, Wilburn Sanders was preceded in death by his
2parents; his siblings, Shirley Richardson and Oswald Sanders;
3and his first wife, Catherine Macklin; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Wilburn Sanders is survived by his devoted wife,
5Paula; 2 children, Kevin (Audrey) Sanders and Kitty (Robert)
6Collins; 4 grandchildren, Kevin and Yvonne Sanders and Paige
7and Bobby Collins; his siblings, George Sanders, Ronald (Burma)
8Sanders, Wilma Scott, and Elizabeth (Earl) Bowen; 4
9great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and
10friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Wilburn "Mac" Sanders;
14and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Wilburn Sanders as an expression of
17our sympathy.
