1    AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963 is
5amended by changing Section 110-9 as follows:
 
6    (725 ILCS 5/110-9)  (from Ch. 38, par. 110-9)
7    Sec. 110-9. Taking of bail by peace officer. When bail has
8been set by a judicial officer for a particular offense or
9offender any sheriff or other peace officer may take bail in
10accordance with the provisions of Section 110-7 or 110-8 of
11this Code and release the offender to appear in accordance with
12the conditions of the bail bond, the Notice to Appear or the
13Summons. The officer shall give a receipt to the offender for
14the bail so taken and within a reasonable time deposit such
15bail with the clerk of the court having jurisdiction of the
16offense. A sheriff or other peace officer taking bail in
17accordance with the provisions of Section 110-7 or 110-8 of
18this Code shall accept payments made in the form of currency,
19and may accept other forms of payment as the sheriff shall by
20rule authorize. For purposes of this Section, "currency" has
21the meaning provided in subsection (a) of Section 3 of the
22Currency Reporting Act.
