HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The United States and the State of Illinois should
3strive to foster inclusion, opportunity, and equality for all
4individuals regardless of race, gender, nationality, sexual
5orientation, or religion; and
 
6    WHEREAS, We are a nation built on an American dream, which
7has flourished due to hope, unity, and the acceptance and
8inclusion of immigrants in our society; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The greatest strength of our people and our
10society is our diversity; out of many, we are one; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Stephen Bannon is a known white supremacist who
12has fanned the flames of hatred and intolerance while
13editor-in-chief at Breitbart News; as a top advisor, he has
14brought the same hateful tactics to President-elect Donald
15Trump's campaign; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The deplorable headlines published during Mr.
17Bannon's tenure at Breitbart including: "Would you rather your
18child had feminism or cancer", "Hoist it high and proud: The
19Confederate flag proclaims a glorious heritage", "Gay rights
20have made us dumber, it's time to get back in the closet",
21"Bill Kristol: Republican spoiler, renegade Jew", reflect the

1frightening world view of the white-nationalist group, known as
2the "alt-right"; and
 
3    WHEREAS, An individual heralded by the "alt-right" and
4pushing a strong white-nationalistic, anti-Semitic,
5Islamophobic, and misogynistic agenda, who has used racial
6divisiveness for his own personal advancement has no place
7working in American government, much less in a leadership role
8within the White House; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Since the November 8, 2016 election, the Southern
10Poverty Law Center and the American Council on American-Islamic
11Relations have both documented an alarming surge in the number
12of reported hate crimes against marginalized Americans; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Since the November 8, 2016 election, calls to the
14suicide hotline in Illinois have increased by 200%, with
15experts attributing the alarming increase in part to
16marginalized communities fearing for their safety after the
17results of the election; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of
21marginalized communities including women, people of color,
22immigrants, the LGBTQ community, and the disabled by condemning

1the appointment of Stephen Bannon as Chief Strategist to
2President-elect Trump and demand President-elect Trump to
3rescind the appointment and focus on uniting our country and
4serving as Commander-in-Chief for all Americans; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That we urge Governor Rauner to stand with
7marginalized communities in Illinois and call for the rejection
8of hate speech and the immediate dismissal of Mr. Bannon; and
9be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11delivered to Governor Rauner and President-elect Trump.
