HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Centralia High
4School boys basketball team, the Orphans, on regaining the
5prestigious distinction as the winningest basketball program
6in the country; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Centralia High School boys basketball program
8is one of the most storied basketball programs in the nation;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Orphans have reached the finals in the
11Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Basketball
12Tournament 24 times since 1909, and have won three State
13championships; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Orphans long-term success led the team to
15becoming the winningest high school program in the country when
16they won their 2000th game during the 2007-08 season; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Orphans relinquished their crown for a brief
18time to Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tennessee; and
 
19    WHEREAS, On March 1, 2016, with a 67-35 win over Salem in
20the IHSA Regional Semifinal, the Orphans reached a historical

12,197 accumulative wins, surpassing Dobyns Bennett's 2,196;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, The hard-working members of the Orphans are
4D'Aaron Owens, Gavin Cass, Lundyn Waithe, Ja'Chai Webster,
5Tre'von McClain, Johnathan Keeler, Deven Toennies, Jordan
6Maines, Dawson Berry, Tyriq Billberry, Javon Williams Jr.,
7Jared Glenn, Bryan Meskil, Peyton Long, and Sirlando Calcutt;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Orphans are coached by Head Coach Lee Bennett
10and Assistant Coaches, Brad Goewey, Doug Jack, Tommy Baro, and
11Cole Schrage; and Student Managers, Mitchel Pierce and Jordan
12Branon; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15congratulate the coaches and members of the Centralia High
16School boys basketball team, the Orphans, for their hard work
17and dedication which led to becoming (again) the winningest
18basketball program in the country, and we wish them many more
19years of success; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the Orphans as an expression of our esteem and
22respect.
