HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to hear of the passing of James J.
4Elson, Sr. of Canton and wish to honor his life and pay tribute
5to this very special man; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. was born in Pontiac on August 5,
71931 to Howard and Bernadine (nee Twomey) Elson; he graduated
8from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science from
9the College of Agriculture and a Juris Doctorate from the
10College of Law; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr., after graduating from the
12College of Law, served 3 years of active duty as a judge
13advocate (Captain) in the United States Air Force; and
 
14    WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. began practicing law in Canton
15after his release from service, which he continued to do until
16his retirement in 2009; and
 
17    WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr.'s hard work led to a long career
18in law, which included being named a laureate of the Illinois
19Academy of Lawyers in 2001, being a member of the Illinois
20State Bar Association Board of Governors for 8 years, and being
21a member of the Illinois State Bar Association Assembly for 13

1years; and
 
2    WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. was deeply involved in his
3community as a Trustee of the Parlin-Ingersoll Public Library
4for 32 years and as President of the Canton Area Chamber of
5Commerce in 1970; he was named Citizen of the Year in 1985; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. will leave a legacy of
7outstanding community service to the City of Canton through all
8that he has done; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. is survived by his wife, Nancy
10Elson; his 2 daughters, Marygrace Elson and Joan Bernadine
11Moore; his 3 sons, James J. Elson, Jr., Stephen P. Elson, and
12John C. Elson; and his 2 sisters, Mary Anne Elson and Carol
13Abell; he has 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17mourn the passing of James J. Elson, Sr., and extend our
18sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all of those
19who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of James Elson, Sr. as an expression of
