HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Laurette Kittler on the
4occasion of being inducted into St. Benedict School's Hall of
5Fame on October 24, 2015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Laurette Kittler was born on December 17, 1928 in
7Chicago; before finding her way into education, she studied and
8traveled as an actress, working in various companies and
9sharing the stage with the likes of Harvey Korman and Celeste
10Holm; she eventually met her life partner, Emil Kittler, whom
11she married in 1952; the couple had one daughter, Emily, who
12took part in several of her mother's shows; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After many years as an actress, she decided that
14the difficult life of a thespian was not the direction she
15wanted to take; her father then encouraged her to go back to
16school and teach; in the spring of 1959, while teaching at St.
17Gregory on Chicago's north side, she was asked to direct a play
18at St. Benedict High School that was already in production; the
19following school year, she was hired to teach and direct at St.
20Benedict; and
 
21    WHEREAS, From the 1950s to the mid-1990s, Laurette Kittler
22directed countless productions and taught thousands of

1students; she also inspired them to be better people; by
2marrying her love of theater with her love of teaching, she
3taught her drama students not only to act and "project", but
4also learn the vital skills of teamwork, dedication, and a
5professional attitude that makes one successful in life; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Upon her retirement, Laurette Kittler made her way
7to southern California, where she acted in a local troupe for
8many years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In honor of Laurette Kittler's induction into the
10St. Benedict Hall of Fame, a scholarship to a high school drama
11student will be presented in her name; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Laurette Kittler serves as a model of hard work,
13integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
14Illinois; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17congratulate Laurette Kittler on the occasion of being inducted
18into St. Benedict School's Hall of Fame and wish her continued
19success and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Laurette Kittler as a symbol of our esteem and
