HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Hoffman Estates Mayor
4William D. McLeod on 35 years in government service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod was elected to the office of Mayor in
6April of 2001 after serving as Acting Mayor; he previously
7served as a Village Trustee for more than 20 years - many as
8Deputy Mayor; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod has a goal of seeking every
10opportunity to listen to the concerns of the citizens and
11business owners in the village; he and his wife attend almost
12every village block party during the summer to thank the
13organizers and to give residents the opportunity to ask
14questions and give comments; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Since his election to the office of the Mayor,
16Mayor McLeod has successfully negotiated a boundary agreement
17with the Village of South Barrington - ending 40 years of
18acrimony; electrical service interruptions have been
19addressed, and Hoffman Estates continues to work with ComEd to
20find and correct the problems resulting from an aging
21infrastructure; he successfully advocated for the creation of
22an Economic Development Committee and served as Chair of the

1Referendum Committees that brought emergency 911 service,
2non-partisan elections, and the village manager system of
3government to Hoffman Estates; he was instrumental in the
4creation of the Hoffman Estates Historical Museum; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod serves as a board member of the
6Schaumburg Regional Air Park; he represents Hoffman Estates at
7the Northwest Municipal Conference, where he previously served
8as President and as the Chair of its Economic Development
9Committee, as Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee, and as
10Chair of the Transportation Committee; he is a member of the
11Transportation Steering Committee and Communications Committee
12with the United States Conference of Mayors; he serves as a
13Director of the Joint Action Water Agency, has represented
14Hoffman Estates for 20 years on the Regional Cable Group, and
15is a former director of the Greater Woodfield Convention and
16Visitors Bureau; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod is a long-standing supporter of the
18environment; he is one of 1,000 U.S. Mayors to sign The U.S.
19Conference of Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement; under his
20leadership, Hoffman Estates has expanded bicycle trails and
21on-street bike routes and lanes and recently constructed a new
22police building and fire station, both of which are LEED
23certified; he established the Hoffman Estates Sustainability
24Committee, and Hoffman Estates joined the Wind Turbine

1Alliance; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod served as a Legislative Assistant to
3an Illinois State Representative for 4 years; he was a board
4member of the Greater Chicagoland Parents of the Hearing
5Impaired and was President of the Castleford/Hearthstone
6Homeowners Association; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mayor McLeod and his wife, Joane, live in the
8Westbury subdivision, where they enjoy spending time with their
9combined 8 children, all of whom attended local public schools
10and universities; his hobbies include reading, walking, and
11history; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14congratulate Hoffman Estates Mayor William D. McLeod on 35
15years in government service and wish him the best in all his
16future endeavors; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Mayor McLeod as an expression of our esteem and
19respect.
