HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish thank Richard L. Barnett on his lifetime
4of service to his community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Barnett was born in Chicago on March 27,
61931; he married Grace in 1950 and they settled in North
7Lawndale, where they raised 3 children, Jarmel, Annitria, and
8Jeneria; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Barnett worked at the United States Post
10Office for 34 years, retiring in July of 1986; he taught at the
11Marcy Center for 2 years and at Blessed Sacrament Elementary
12School for 3 years; he was the Midwest District Roundtable
13Chairman for 2 years, taught political education classes for
14Operation Breadbasket/PUSH from 1969 to 1972, and was a member
15of the Penn Elementary Local School Council from 1989 to 2000;
16he taught urban politics for the Associated College of the
17Midwest for 4 years; he was a 25-year member of the Independent
18Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization and a
1930-year member of the Citizen Information Service-League of
20Women Voters; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Richard Barnett worked with numerous politicians,
22including judges, aldermen, congressmen, state senators, state

1representatives, and mayors, including Chicago Mayor Harold
2Washington; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Richard Barnett founded the Jaguars Little League
4baseball team in 1958, managing it to 1974; he was an assistant
5coach for the Marlin Little League baseball team in Franklin
6Park for 4 years; he was an assistant Boy Scout Master for 3
7years; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Since 1996, Richard Barnett has served as
9Executive Board Member of the Windy City Youth Football League;
10known as the Dolphins, the league consists of approximately 250
11boys and 50 cheerleaders in elementary school ages 5 to 14;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15thank Richard L. Barnett on his lifetime of service to his
16community and wish him many more successful years; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Richard Barnett as an expression of our esteem and
20respect.
