HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Prashant
4Bhargava; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava was an acclaimed filmmaker and
6commercial director known for revealing the extraordinary in
7the ordinary; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's films are anthems of the
9underground; his canvas is the rambunctious, fascinating,
10ever-changing globe; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava was born and raised on the south
12side of Chicago and, by his own telling, was "one of the first
13South Asians worldwide to emerge from the hip hop movement as a
14graffiti artist"; growing up on the South Side was his most
15beloved calling card; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava graduated in 1994 from Cornell
17University, where he studied computer science; he also studied
18theatrical directing in New York at the Barrow Group Theater
19Company and School and at the Actors Studio; he later designed
20and directed video advertising for NBC and PBS; and

1    WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's most recent work, a work with
2composer Vijay Iyer entitled Radhe Radhe, was commissioned to
3commemorate the 100th anniversary of Stravinsky's Rite of
4Spring; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's feature-length directorial
6debut, Patang, received 4 stars from Roger Ebert and selection
7as a critics pick by the New York Times and Los Angeles Times;
8his other directorial efforts include Sangam, Ammaji,
9Backwaters, and Kashmir; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Prashant Bhargava's greatest triumph was his
11unbounded love and devotion to his parents, Vijay and Ranjana,
12his sister, Anurimal, his family and friends, and the countless
13many he encountered on his journey who, with his dancing eyes,
14playful spirit, and mystic truth telling, he left cherished and
15inspired; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18mourn the premature passing of Prashant Bhargava and extend our
19sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
20and loved him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Prashant Bhargava as an expression
