HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rosie Lee
4Lewis, who passed away on June 14, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rosie Lewis was born in Georgiana, Alabama on
6December 15, 1924 to Melvin and Velma (nee Gipson) Mims, Sr.;
7she married Floyd C. Lewis in 1947 and they settled in
8Galesburg; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rosie Lewis worked as a cook for Augie's Airport
10Inn for over 20 years and then at the Knox Manor Nursing Home;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rosie Lewis was a member of Second Baptist Church,
13where she served on the Deaconess and Mother's Board; later,
14she joined Greater Heights Worship Center, where she was a
15charter member and a mother of the church; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rosie Lewis enjoyed making quilts, cooking for
17family and friends, and attending church; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Rosie Lewis was preceded in death by her husband,
19Floyd; her parents; and her 2 brothers, Clyde Mimms and Melvin
20Mims, Jr.; and

1    WHEREAS, Rosie Lewis is survived by her 5 daughters,
2Frances Hawthorne, Rosie Tubbs, Viola (Andrew) Jowers, Sally
3(Leonard) Newson, and Rachael Parker; her son, Floyd (Barbara)
4Lewis; her 4 sisters, Dorothy (Earl) Wilson, Gloria Williams,
5Alice Smith, and Imeater Davison; her brother, Rev. John H.
6(Vickie) Mims; her 16 grandchildren; her 30
7great-grandchildren; her 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a
8host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11mourn the passing of Rosie Lee Lewis, and extend our sincere
12condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Rosie Lewis as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
