HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. John Erwin on the
4occasion of his retirement as President of Illinois Central
5College; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. John Erwin attended the University of
7Indianapolis and graduated with a bachelor's degree in religion
8and English; he subsequently earned a Master of Divinity degree
9from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio, a
10master's degree in history, and a Ph.D. in American Studies and
11United States History from Indiana University; he has also
12completed post-doctoral work at Iowa State University, Hebrew
13University in Jerusalem, and Harvard University; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. John Erwin was a part-time pastor during his
15schooling years as a chaplain at the Ohio State Psychiatric
16Hospital; he also had an inner-city pastoral assignment at St.
17Paul United Methodist Church in Colombus, Ohio; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. John Erwin had his first professorial
19appointment at Illinois Eastern Community College District at
20Olney Central College, where he pastored a nearly 50-mile
21circuit with several different parishes over the course of 6
22years; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. John Erwin has served on many committees,
2including the Executive Committee of the National Junior
3Community College Athletic Association, the Illinois Community
4Colleges Council of Presidents, a CEO Roundtable, the Methodist
5Medical Center Board of Directors, and PeoriaNext; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. John Erwin serves as a model of hard work,
7integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
8Illinois; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11congratulate Dr. John Erwin on the occasion of his retirement
12and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Dr. John Erwin as a symbol of our esteem and
16respect.
