HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Martha Herm on the
4occasion of her retirement as the Executive Director of The
5Center for Prevention of Abuse in Peoria; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Martha Herm is responsible for managing the
7budget, grant procurement, program development, and
8representing the agency to community and funding sources while
9supervising a staff of 95; she began working at The Center for
10Prevention of Abuse as the finance and facilities supervisor in
111989 and was named the Executive Director in 1990; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Center for Prevention of Abuse works to change
13the lives of men, women, and children caught in the web of
14interpersonal violence and abuse; the agency began as a rape
15crisis hotline run by volunteers; today, the agency consists of
165 different departments: WomenStrength, InnerStrength,
17SeniorStrength, YougthStrength, and FamilyStrength; and
 
18    WHEREAS, During Martha Herm's time at The Center for
19Prevention of Abuse, the center celebrated the 25th anniversary
20of the Duck Race - the major fundraiser for the agency; and the
21elder abuse program was expanded to become Adult Protective
22Services; and

1    WHEREAS, Martha Herm is also involved with the Rotary Club
2of Peoria, the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence,
3the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals, Inc.,
4the Illinois Domestic Violence Advisory Council, the 10th
5Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council, the
6Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and the Heart of
7Illinois Agency Executives; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Martha Herm received the Outstanding Victim
9Advocacy Award given by the Victims' Rights Caucus of the House
10of Representatives; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Martha Herm received her bachelor's degree in
12biology from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and
13her master's degree in public administration from the
14University of Illinois at Springfield in 1988; she taught
15school in Connecticut, was a 4-H agent in West Virginia,
16managed the housekeeping staff at the Sheraton Hotel in
17Madison, Wisconsin, and kept the books for a tour company in
18San Francisco, California; she eventually returned to manage
19the family farm, where, at one time or another, she and her
20siblings all worked and where her daughter is now the fifth
21generation to live on the family farm; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Martha Herm's retirement will be official on June

11, 2015; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4congratulate Martha Herm on her retirement as the Executive
5Director of The Center for Prevention of Abuse and we wish her
6the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Martha Herm as an expression of our esteem and
9respect.
