HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Special Children's Charities has been supporting
3Special Olympics Chicago programs since 1969; created by Jack
4McHugh, Special Children's Charities' primary mission is to
5promote, foster, and encourage physical and mental health and
6improvement for children and adults with intellectual
7disabilities and closely related developmental disabilities;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, In cooperation with the Chicago Park District,
10Chicago Public Schools, and Special Olympics Illinois, Special
11Children's Charities is committed to providing year-round
12sports training and recreational and social programs for the
13children and adults of Special Olympics Chicago; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Special Olympics Chicago is one of 17 areas of
15Special Olympics Illinois offering training and competition in
1622 sports; athletes learn fundamentals, rules, and strategies
17from their coaches during a training period prior to
18competition; competitions are held at the area, regional, and
19State levels; Special Olympics Chicago also provides motor
20activities training programs for persons with severe and
21profound disabilities; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Special Olympics is the world's largest program

1for sports training and athletic competition for children and
2adults with intellectual disabilities, inspiring greatness in
3more than one million athletes in 150 nations worldwide;
4because of Special Olympics, the world has witnessed the
5courage, character, dedication, dignity, and worth of people
6with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and
 
7    WHEREAS, On May 4, 2015, the opening ceremonies were held
8in honor of their Spring Games; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11recognize the Special Children's Charities for their support of
12Special Olympics Chicago; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Special Children's Charities as an expression of
15our esteem and respect.
