HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bruce
4Allen Fasol of West Frankfort, who passed away on January 16,
52015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol was born in Benton on March 11, 1957
7to Pearl (nee Filkins) and Delio Fasol; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol served as the voice of the West
9Frankfort Redbirds in Max Morris Gymnasium for over 40 years,
10broadcasting more than 4,000 games; he was a member of the
11Illinois Broadcaster's Association Hall of Fame and recipient
12of awards such as the Broadcast Achievement Award, the Liberty
13Bell Award, the Illinois High School Association Distinguished
14Media Service Award, the Outstanding Club Leadership Award from
15Key Club International, the Merle-Jones Lifetime Achievement
16Award, the Tom McKie Achievement Award, and many others; in
172000, he was named as the Citizen of the Year for his work in
18West Frankfort Athletics and his dedication to the community;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol created, led, and assisted with dozens
21of charity and community programs and organizations; he
22launched the Emergency Tele-Medicine committee to help bring

1more advanced medical services to Southern Illinois; he was
2instrumental in the planning of hundreds of community projects;
3his most prized project was a coat program started in 2003 with
4his longtime broadcast partner and best friend, Rick
5Westermeier; the program collected and housed donated coats all
6year and made them available free to anyone in need; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol was affectionately known as "Poppa"
8and his grandkids, Zakkary and Isabella Chambers and Bre'Anna,
9were "Poppa's Army"; he had 2 daughters and one son-in-law,
10Tara Fasol-Chambers and husband, Dave Chambers, and Sara Fasol;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol was preceded in death by his mother,
13Pearl Fasol; his father, Delio Fasol; his step-mother, Jesse
14Fasol; and his sister, Carole Hood; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bruce Fasol is remembered by his brother, Al
16Fasol, and wife, Beverly, and their children and grandchildren,
17as well as a cousin, whom he thought of as a little brother,
18Michael Bret Hood, and his wife, Nancy, and daughter;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22designate the portion of Illinois Route 149 from Monroe Street

1to McClelland Street in West Frankfort as Bruce Fasol Way; and
2be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
4is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
5State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
6giving notice of the name of Bruce Fasol Way; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Bruce Fasol and the Illinois
9Department of Transportation.
