HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The 21st annual convention of the Association of
3Lincoln Presenters was held April 16-19, 2015 in Vandalia at
4the Historic Vandalia Statehouse; 2015 marks the 150th
5anniversary of the passing of the 16th President of the United
6States of America, Abraham Lincoln; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Association of Lincoln Presenters is an
8organization of men and women dedicated to bringing Abraham and
9Mary Todd Lincoln to life through presentations that educate,
10entertain, and inspire, as well as to preserving the legacy of
11Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, to honor their words and works,
12and walk in their footsteps; and
 
13    WHEREAS, There are over 1,500 Abraham Lincoln sites
14available on the Internet; the Association of Lincoln
15Presenters brought 150 living "Lincolns" directly to the
16public, as seen on C-SPAN in the Lincoln-Douglas debates
17reenactment, and in schools, plays, historical societies,
18movies, parades, and celebrations throughout the world; and
 
19    WHEREAS, This year's convention included a Lincoln forum at
20the Statehouse, a Lincoln presenter parade along Gallatin
21Street, a cemetery walk back into history at the South Hill
22Cemetery, a Lincoln ball at the Moose Lodge #1447, a 'Drinkin'

1with Lincoln' social and surprise birthday party for the local
2Lincoln Presenter, Lewis "Abe" Clymer, at the Copper Penny Bar &
3 Grille, and church services at the First Church of God; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Historic Vandalia Statehouse is where Mr.
5Lincoln began his political career and made his first speech in
6opposition to the expansion of slavery; Vandalia was also a
7stop on the Underground Railroad to Freedom; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10congratulate the Association of Lincoln Presenters on a
11successful convention and thank them in their efforts to help
12inspire others and educate everyone on the history and impact
13of Abraham Lincoln to the City of Vandalia, the County of
14Fayette, the State of Illinois, the United States of America,
15and the world; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
17presented to all Abraham Lincoln, Mary Todd Lincoln, and
18Frederick Douglass presenters, as well as the other historical
19presenters portrayed in the historical cemetery walk,
20organizers, officials, and the Friends of the Vandalia
21Statehouse who helped to make this event a success.
