HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives recognize the essential spirit of giving back
4to one's community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The legacy of George and Emma Loveland continue to
6set the standard for public service through their establishment
7of the Loveland Community House even 75 years after opening its
8doors; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Lovelands spent their lives in the Dixon area
10and were vitally interested in the community's progress; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Lovelands believed that every individual
12deserves a social life, and therefore generously provided a
13building and equipment for the use of all who cared to
14participate in Loveland Community House's activities; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Loveland Community House was built at a cost
16of $200,000 (over $3,200,000 in today's dollars) and dedicated
17in 1940; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Loveland Community House is not only a
19beautiful structure, but includes a museum dedicated to local
20history and includes a collection of artwork from nationally

1known local artists; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The Loveland Community House attracts patrons for
3a multitude of events, from weddings to birthday parties,
4religious and professional functions, always at very low rates,
5keeping in the spirit of the Lovelands; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Another purposes of the Lovelands providing a
7community house, was to perpetuate the family name, a family
8whose roots in Dixon extend over 175 years, beginning when Otis
9Loveland's grandfather, George C. Loveland, came to Dixon with
10his wife, 2 sons and 3 daughters in 1837; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that in
13honor of the Loveland family's commitment to others, October
1411, 2015 shall be designated as "Loveland Day" in the State of
15Illinois.
