HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kenneth Hartman,
4Jr. on the occasion of his election to the position of
5President of the Illinois Corn Growers Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. is a 5th generation farmer who
7has been farming his whole life; he farms corn, soybeans, and
8wheat on a family farm near Waterloo; the farm was once a dairy
9farm but is now a grain farm; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. attended Waterloo High School and
11attended a technical school for computer science in St. Louis;
12he later worked for a bank for about 6 months before returning
13to the farm where he now lives with his wife, Anita, and their
143 daughters, Amanda, Alexis, and Ashley; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. has served on the board of the
16Illinois Corn Growers Association for 6 years and served as
17Vice President before his election to the position of
18President; while on the board, he represented corn farmers in
19Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe, St. Clair, and Washington
20Counties; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Illinois Corn Growers Association,

1established in 1972, is a grassroots membership organization
2with 5,000 members representing the needs and interests of corn
3farmers throughout the State of Illinois; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The board of the Illinois Corn Growers
5Association, which consists of 15 directors representing
6specific districts in Illinois and 3 at-large directors,
7coordinates and conducts market development and creates
8legislative and public relations programs to benefit corn
9producers; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Corn production in Illinois totals 15.1% of the
11entire production in the United States, ranking Illinois as
12second in the nation for both corn production and acreage; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 2013, Illinois farmers harvested over 2.1
14billion bushels of corn from 12 million acres of farmland,
15which was used for food products, livestock, and, increasingly,
16for the production of ethanol fuel; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Through Ken Hartman, Jr.'s leadership, the
18Illinois Corn Growers Association will continue to work to
19expand Illinois corn in the ethanol market to deliver high
20demand following a record breaking harvest in 2014; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ken Hartman, Jr. and the Illinois Corn Growers

1Association will lead the effort to upgrade the lock and dams
2on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers and increase water
3quality and nutrition in Illinois, benefiting not only farmers,
4but all residents of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7congratulate Kenneth Hartman, Jr. on the occasion of his
8election to the position of President of the Illinois Corn
9Growers Association, and wish him the best in his new role and
10all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Ken Hartman, Jr. as an expression of our esteem,
13respect, and good wishes.
