HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pastor
4Arthur J. Guyton, Sr. of Peoria, who passed away on January 12,
52015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. was born in Blytheville,
7Arkansas on April 8, 1936 to Marshell and Fannie (nee Clark)
8Guyton; he attended school in Blytheville, Arkansas; he
9graduated from the Walther Theological Seminary in Decatur and
10attended branch extension classes in Monroe, Louisiana, where
11he earned several degrees; he married Lena Ferguson; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. retired from Caterpillar, Inc.
13in Morton after 34 years of dedicated service; he also served
14in the jail ministry for 40 years and was the founder of
15Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, serving as pastor there for
1616 years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. held many positions with the
18Baptist Ministerial Alliance; he was a member of the Baptist
19Ministerial Alliance board and served on many other boards; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. loved helping people, family
21gatherings, and cooking; and

1    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. was preceded in death by his
2parents; his 3 brothers; and his 4 sisters; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Arthur Guyton, Sr. is survived by his wife of 58
4years, Lena; his 3 sons, Arthur (Georgetta) Guyton, Jr., Carey
5L. Guyton, and Stephen D. (Denise) Guyton; his 3 daughters,
6Margaret J. Guyton, Marnette Riley, and Lori T. (Pastor Harold)
7Dawson, Jr.; his 4 brothers, Johnny (Lois) Guyton, Willie
8(Willie B.) Guyton, Dave (Emma) Guyton, and Thurmond Guyton;
9his 5 sisters, Verlean Johnson, Bobbie Posey, Pauline Dodson,
10Mary Logan, and Thedosia Guyton; his 21 grandchildren; his 29
11great-grandchildren; his great-great-grandchild; his 5
12godchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear
13friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16mourn the passing of Pastor Arthur J. Guyton, Sr., and extend
17our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
18knew and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Arthur Guyton, Sr. as an expression
21of our sympathy.
