HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is necessary to recognize those who are
3dedicated to the betterment of the State of Illinois and their
4communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert J. "Pud" Williams was born on June 21, 1926
6in Centervllle, the son of Robert P. and Mamie Olive (nee
7Vaught) Williams; he married Dorothy Lee Given on December 27,
81952: he served at Director of Agriculture for the State of
9Illinois from 1972 to 1976; and
 
10    WHEREAS, During his tenure as Director of Agriculture and
11Chairman of the White County Board, Robert J. "Pud" Williams
12made it a priority to boost the local economy by working for
13better infrastructure throughout the area; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert J. "Pud" Williams played an instrumental
15role in achieving the new Carmi Airport, an intersection at the
16First Baptist Church in Carmi, and the Interstate 64 exit at
17mile marker 117; and
 
18    WHEREAS, It is fitting to dedicate the Burnt Prairie exit
19at mile marker 117 on Interstate 64 in honor of Director Robert
20J. "Pud" Williams; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
3SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Burnt Prairie
4interstate exit at mile marker 117 on Interstate 64 as the
5"Robert J. "Pud" Williams Memorial Exit"; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
7is requested to erect at at suitable locations, consistent with
8State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
9giving notice of the name of "Robert J. "Pud" Williams Memorial
10Exit"; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
13Transportation and the family of Robert J. "Pud" Williams.
