SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Major (Ret.) Alfred Earl Clark, Jr., who
4passed away on September 26, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was born in Pittsburgh,
6Pennsylvania on April 17, 1943 to Alfred Earl Clark, Sr. and
7Thelma Adams; he attended Miller Elementary School and
8graduated from Fifth Avenue Junior and Senior High School in
9Pittsburgh in 1961; he received his Bachelor of Arts in
10Mathematics from Fayetteville State University in
11Fayetteville, North Carolina and his Master of Arts in
12Administration and Supervision from Roosevelt University in
13Chicago; he married to Donna Sue Thomas on August 19, 1972 in
14Austin, Texas; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. served as a Major in the United
16States Army; he served during the Vietnam War and received an
17Honorable Discharge; in January of 1989, he retired from the
18United States Army Reserve; he was a recipient of the Bronze
19Star and numerous other military honors; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was an educator for 30 years in
21the public schools of North Chicago and Chicago; his
22educational career started as a mathematics and science

1teacher, football and track coach, and continued as dean of
2students, assistant principal, principal, athletic director,
3director of adult education, and in the superintendent's
4cabinet as director of student services, transportation, and
5school safety; he was instrumental in sponsoring 3 high school
6students for the Alfred Clark Scholarship Award in North
7Carolina; and
8
9    WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was a member of Green's Temple
10Church of God in Pittsburgh and then Shiloh Baptist Church of
11Waukegan; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was preceded in death by his
13parents; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. is survived by his wife, Donna
15Sue; his son, Jadaun; 3 siblings, Rose (Jacob) Reid, John
16(Sylvia) Clark, and Cheryl Clark; his aunt, Mary Lee Seay; 3
17sisters-in-law, Georgia Thomas, Mae Turman, and Linda Thomas; 2
18brothers-in-law, Augustus Williams and George Thomas (Cheryl);
1910 nieces; 9 nephews; 18 cousins; 3 godchildren; and a host of
20other relatives, friends, and precious former students;
21therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Major (Ret.) Alfred Earl Clark, Jr., and extend our sincere
2condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Alfred Clark, Jr. as an expression
6of our deepest sympathy.
