SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John R. Snyder of Rushville, who passed
4away on June 15, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Snyder was born in Macomb on January 1, 1942
6to Irwin and Helen (nee Vaughn) Snyder; he grew up in Hersman
7and graduated from Brown County High School in 1960; he
8attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, where he
9played football, and later attended Parsons College in
10Fairfield, Iowa, where he was a member of the parachute team;
11he married Dianne Busen on July 22, 1967 at the First Christian
12Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Sterling; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Snyder enlisted with the United States Army
14during the Vietnam War; he was stationed at Fort Rucker where
15he earned his pilot's license and air traffic controller
16certification; he was a member of the select Golden Knights
17parachute team and participated in many demonstrations and
18competitions both domestically and internationally; he logged
19over 2,000 jumps and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for
20breaking many parachuting records and he participated in the
21Military Olympics in Spain in 1968; he earned his pilot's
22licenses from Emery Riddle University in Atlanta, Georgia for
23commercial multi-engine and instrumental ratings; and

1    WHEREAS, After his military service, John Snyder worked in
2insurance sales and management in St. Louis, before being
3recruited by his mother to run the family business of Snyder's
4Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville in 1973; he became owner
5and administrator, working until his death; he was also a
6licensed plumber, electrician, and HVAC technician and had many
7other business interests; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Snyder was a member of many pilot and flying
9associations, founding member of the Rushville Flying Club,
10board member and past president of the Illinois Health Care
11Association, board member of the American Health Care
12Association, and co-founder of the Illinois Nursing Home
13Administrators Association; he was also a member of the First
14Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville, the
15Rushville Masonic Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons 9, the
16Quincy Consistory and the Ansar Shrine, and the Schuyler
17American Legion Post 4, 40 et 8; for many years, he coached and
18supported Rushville Little League and flag football; he enjoyed
19flying, playing golf, and working; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Snyder was preceded in death by his parents;
21and
 
22    WHEREAS, John Snyder is survived by his wife, Dianne; 2

1sons, Aaron Snyder and Gregg Snyder; one brother, Vaughn Snyder
2and wife, Janet; his mother-in-law, Louise Busen; and several
3nephews and their wives; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6John R. Snyder, and extend our sincere condolences to his
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of John Snyder as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
