SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Augusta May Adams of Chicago, who passed
4away on February 1, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Augusta Adams was born in Brownsville, Tennessee
6on August 10, 1918 to Albert and Susie Bond; she attended
7Austin High School in Knoxville, Tennessee and Tennessee State
8University; in 1944, she graduated from beauty school and
9became a cosmetologist; she married Allen Adams in 1967; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Augusta Adams followed her passion for cooking and
11became a dietician for the Knoxville School System; she then
12moved to Chicago and began working as a dietician for the State
13of Illinois; she retired after over 30 years of service as a
14dietary manager with the Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Institute;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Augusta Adams, along with her husband, were
17founding members of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in
18Chicago, where she served for many years as the President of
19the Pastor's Service Club; she later joined Faith United
20Methodist Church in Chicago; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Augusta Adams enjoyed traveling, cooking,

1quilting, fishing, and watching religious programming on
2television; she also enjoyed playing with her grandchildren,
3great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Augusta Adams was preceded in death by her
5parents, and by her son, Albert; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Augusta Adams is survived by her son, Gene Harper;
7her grandchildren, Phyllis Harper, Cheryl (Yul)
8Harper-Cousins, Diane (J.C.) Smith, Albert (Kim) Harper, Jr.,
9Darius (Janice) Harper, Karlette Karas, Kenneth Harper, and
10Michelle (Ronald) Burrell; her great-grandchildren, Tre'
11Harper, Branden Cousins, Brycen Cousins, Darius, Jr., Kenneth,
12Jr., Cameron Harper, Ashley Smith, Tiffany Smith, Jeremy Smith,
13Teahzjawon Harper, Bradley, Jr., Steven Karas, and Nickie
14Karas; her 4 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Alma
15Williams; her daughters-in-law, Bobbie Harper and Bonnie
16Harper; her cousins, Vashti Tyson, Sue Dent, and Bernice
17Harper; and a host of other relatives and friends including Pat
18Cox, Judy Ector, Kenneth Fonville, Earl Fagen, and Mr. and Mrs.
19James Sankey; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Augusta May Adams, and extend our sincere condolences to her
23family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
