SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Eleanore V. Reid of McHenry, who passed
4away on September 2, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid was born on July 10, 1923 in
6Chicago; her parents were Harry and Susan (Frett) Rankin; she
7married Edwin F. Reid, Jr. on May 7, 1942 at St. Patrick's
8Catholic Church in McHenry; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid graduated from McHenry High School
10with the Class of 1941 and served on the reunion committee
11every 5 years through its 65th reunion; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid served as a nurse's aide during
13World War II; she also worked in a defense factory in
14Woodstock; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid has been a member of St. Patrick's
16Church in McHenry since she was 8 years old and was a member of
17the St. Patrick's Ladies Guild; she was employed as a secretary
18at St. Patrick's Church for 25 years under Fathers Coakley,
19Pettit, Guzzardo, and McKitrick; she also served as PTA
20president and was a Cub Scout den mother; and

1    WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid volunteered for numerous causes;
2she drove cancer patients to chemotherapy for 11 years, headed
3Red Cross drives for the City of McHenry, and served on the
4McHenry County Board for 7 years; she was a member of the
5American Legion Auxiliary No. 491 for 64 years, and was a past
6president and headed many committees; she was a member of
7Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary No. 4600; she served
8as an instructor and chaperone for the Viscount Drum and Bugle
9Corps for 11 years; she also volunteered for Senior Services in
10McHenry as a receptionist and exercise instructor; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Eleanore loved to travel, and she traveled
12extensively in the United States, Greece, Ireland, England,
13Germany, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico; she also enjoyed
14Christmas, bowling, reading, golf, needlework, playing
15dominoes, having lunch with her sorority sisters, and spending
16time with her family and extended family; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid was preceded in death by her
18parents; her husband; her stepmother; her 6 sisters-in-law; and
19her 5 brothers-in-law; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Eleanore Reid is survived by her children, Edwin
21F. "Bud" (Vikee) Reid III, Bernadine (Michael) Mould, Charlene
22(Thomas) Reichert, Ronald Reid, Acceneth "Cindy" Bateman, and
23Noelle (Terry) Reid-Andrews; her son-in-law, Hugh Bateman; her

1grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin), Shane (Megan), Lanna (Andrew),
2Grace (Michael), Ean (Ashley), Paige, Debbie, Brittany,
3Shannon (Josh), Trae, Adam (Leah), Alisha, Nicholas, Erik
4(Elizabeth), and Christopher; her great-grandchildren, Martin,
5Jemma (Will), Miranda, Fiona, Isabella, and Katelyn; her
6great-great-granddaughters, Sophia and Mya; her foster
7children, Shirley Epperhart and Patricia Harris; her son,
8adopted in her heart, Kelly (Carole) Low; foreign exchange
9students and their families, Paulo (Daisy) Lopes and his
10children, Daniella and Marcelo and grandchild, Eduarda, and
11Georgia (Evripidis) Panagopolou and her children, Giannis,
12Panayiotis, Konstantino, and Stefanos; her brother-in-law,
13B.H. (Mary Rose) Reid; her sisters-in-law, Lois Jungck, Dinah
14Keeley, and Anna Wimmer; and her many cousins, nieces, nephews,
15and friends; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
18family and friends, mourn the passing of Eleanore V. Reid; and
19be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Eleanore Reid as an expression of
22our sympathy.
