SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
4lives in the line of duty; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sheriff John Lammy's last watch occurred on
6September 25, 1881; he was killed in a shoot-out near Fox Creek
7Bridge on Route 96 in between Kampsville and Mozier; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Marshal Charles B. Rose's last watch occurred on
9October 14, 1911; he was killed in Kampsville while attempting
10to arrest William Carter and was fatally stabbed by, Elmer
11Carter, the suspects brother; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Illinois State Trooper George L. Fredrickson's
13last watch occurred on September 1, 1947; he died in his
14attempt to save a motorcyclist on Labor Day, 2 miles west of
15Grafton near the Brussels Illinois State Ferry; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Chief Deputy Sheriff Brian K. Gibbons's last watch
17was on July 11, 2006 after having his squad car struck by a
18drunk driver 2 days prior; and
 
19    WHEREAS, These fallen heroes deserve to be remembered by
20the State of Illinois for making the ultimate sacrifice;

1therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
4CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recognize Sheriff John Lammy,
5Marshal Charles B. Rose, Illinois State Trooper George L.
6Frederickson, and Chief Deputy Sheriff Brian K. Gibbons; and be
7it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we designate Route 96 between Kampsville and
9Mozier as the "Sheriff John Lammy Memorial Highway"; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That we designate the Illinois State Kampsville
12Ferry Landing, on both the Kampsville and Eldred sides of the
13river, as the "Kampsville Marshal Charles B. Rose Memorial
14Landing"; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That we designate a stretch of Route 100 from
16Grafton to Pere Marquette State Park as the "Illinois State
17Trooper George L. Fredrickson Memorial Highway"; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That we recognize the naming of Route 100 as it
20passes through Calhoun County as the "Chief Deputy Brian K
21Gibbons Memorial Highway"; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
2is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
3State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
4giving notice of the these names.
