AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 206

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 206 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Secretary of State Merit Employment Code is
5amended by changing Section 12 as follows:
 
6    (15 ILCS 310/12)  (from Ch. 124, par. 112)
7    Sec. 12. Employees of the Office of the Secretary of State -
8 election to public office - leave of absence - re-entry of
9service. Any person holding a position in the Office of the
10Secretary of State, who is elected to public office, may shall,
11upon request, be granted a leave of absence, without pay, from
12such position. The leave of absence shall continue so long as
13he remains an elected officer or for a period of 5 years,
14whichever is shorter and for a period of 30 calendar days
15thereafter.
16    If such person files a written request with the Director of

1Personnel to re-enter active service with the Office of the
2Secretary of State within a 30-day period following the
3termination of his leave, such 30 day period he may shall be
4reinstated to his former position or a position of comparable
5duties, responsibilities and pay.
