HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Barb Nafziger on the
4occasion of her retirement from the McLean County Coroner's
5Office; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Barb Nafziger began her career with the McLean
7County Coroner's Office in November of 1995 as a part-time
8Deputy under Coroner Dan Brady; she was promoted to full-time
9Deputy Coroner, then Lead Deputy Coroner, and finally Chief
10Deputy Coroner, where she has worked under the direction of
11current Coroner Beth Kimmerling for the past 11 and ½ years;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, This position grants Barb Nafziger the
14opportunity to make presentations and participate in several
15organizations; however, her main interests while in the office
16have been in the areas of mental illness and dementia; she has
17been actively involved for many years in the National Alliance
18for Mental Health and McLean County's Recovery Court and
19Advisory Board; she was a facilitator for the Survivors of
20Suicide support group and has provided lectures emphasizing
21coping mechanisms for those families with loved ones
22experiencing some type of dementia; she has pursued formal
23training in the areas of Suicide Investigation and Police

1Response to Mental Illness; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Through the National Catholic Ministry to the
3Bereaved, Barb Nafziger has been trained in the advanced skills
4of pastoral bereavement counseling and has provided emotional
5and psychological support to many survivors in the McLean
6County area; she has been a nationally certified Death
7Investigator since October 2001, and successfully passed
8Illinois's mandatory Lead Homicide Investigator class; her
9areas of expertise include Disaster Response, Forensic
10Anthropology, and Reconstruction of Shooting Incidents; within
11the office, she was the liaison to the Southern Illinois Child
12Death Investigation Task Force, and managed the highly
13successful Internship program as well as the Alzheimer's Brain
14Research project; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Prior to joining the coroner's office, Barb
16Nafziger had over 15 years of experience in the health care
17field; she also served on the Board of Directors for the
18Livingston County Family Care Center, and was a Court Appointed
19Special Advocate for McLean County; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Barb Nafziger was raised in Pontiac; she attended
21Parkland College and Heartland Community College, and has over
2260 hours of college credit in the areas of psychology, medical
23terminology, sociology, and anatomy and physiology; she is

1married to John Nafziger, and they have 5 children; they serve
2their community as Eucharistic Ministers at Holy Trinity
3Catholic Parish in Bloomington; in her spare time, she enjoys
4spending time with her grandchildren and relaxing at the family
5lake house; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Barb Nafziger on her retirement from the McLean
9County Coroner's Office, and wish her the best in all her
10future endeavors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Barb Nafziger as an expression of our esteem and
13respect.
