HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize William C. Schumann of
4Wheaton on his time in the United States military and his
5commitment to those who have served; and
 
6    WHEREAS, William Schumann has always had respect and
7admiration for those who have served their country in the
8military; he served 6 years from 1971 to 1976 in the United
9States Army Reserve and observed first hand the sacrifice
10military families make in order to serve as members of the
11military; and
 
12    WHEREAS, For many years, William Schumann has been
13concerned with the plight of homeless veterans; at the time of
14his discharge, he saw the numerous challenges veterans faced
15lead to homelessness for many of them, and he strives to help
16all those that he can; and
 
17    WHEREAS, William Schumann will be hosting a party to
18celebrate his 65th birthday where he is asking attendees to
19make a monetary donation to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless
20Veterans, and he will match all donations received; and
 
21    WHEREAS, William Schumann's commitment to serve extends

1beyond the military; he was Park District Commissioner of Glen
2Ellyn from 1983 to 1989; he coached youth softball and baseball
3in Glen Ellyn for 10 years and was on the Board of Directors of
4the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association from 1983 to
51986; in 1983, he trained and coached a blind runner who won a
6national championship; and
 
7    WHEREAS, William Schumann graduated from Glenbard West
8High School in 1967 and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in
91971; he started a financial services business in 1986 and is a
10father of 2 children, step-father of 2 children, and active
11grandfather of 4 granddaughters; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we recognize William C. Schumann on his time in the United
15States military and his commitment to those who have served;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to William Schumann as an expression of our esteem
19and respect.
