HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Children and teens who have had a loved one pass
3away often feel alone in their grief, as if no one understands
4what they are going through; experiencing a death can be
5overwhelming for anyone, but it is especially difficult for
6those so young; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Grieving children need support, and the first step
8in that support is for those around them to become more aware
9of what they are going through; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Children's Grief Awareness Day is designed to help
11people become more aware of the needs of grieving children and
12the benefits that they can obtain through the support of
13others; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Observed on the third Thursday of every November
15(one week before the United States holiday of Thanksgiving),
16Children's Grief Awareness Day is intentionally set during the
17holiday season, often a particularly difficult time for those
18grieving the loss of a loved one; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 2014, Children's Grief Awareness Day is
20November 20; and

1    WHEREAS, Children's Grief Awareness Day is an opportunity
2to raise awareness of the painful impact that the death of a
3loved one has in the life of a child; it is an opportunity for
4people to recognize and support the millions of grieving
5children across the nation; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we recognize the 2014 Children's Grief Awareness Day and urge
9those in the various communities throughout Illinois to use
10this occasion as an opportunity to make sure that grieving
11children receive the support they need; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the Highmark Caring Foundation as an expression of
14our esteem and respect.
