HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Gang violence is recognized as a growing global
3epidemic that is affecting people of every age, race, culture,
4gender, and financial background; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois and the Rusty Keeble
6Foundation are working to help achieve a gang free America
7through the GANGFREE campaign by providing assistance and
8support for evidenced based prevention and intervention
9programs, public forums for community discussions,
10professional development training, effective enforcement, and
11intelligence sharing; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Illinois and the Rusty Keeble Foundation's
13GANGFREE project will be celebrating the month of November
142013, during which communities and criminal justice
15professionals within all disciplines throughout the State will
16take a stand against gangs and the threat they pose to public
17safety; and
 
18    WHEREAS, This year's GANGFREE month will promote the
19benefits of prevention, intervention, and enforcement within
20our communities, schools, jails, and prisons; this observance
21will educate the community on gang violence and how it can be
22eradicated through a joint effort of a committed community;

1therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we declare November 2013 to be GANGFREE Month in the State of
5Illinois and call upon all citizens of the State to take a
6stand against the proliferation of gangs and gang violence by
7becoming active in the community and we urge all citizens to
8support law enforcement officials, volunteers, teachers,
9health care professionals, and all those who work to help our
10children avoid gangs and gang violence; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the GANGFREE project as an expression of our
13esteem and respect.
