HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Chicago's independent, locally-owned businesses
3keep wealth circulating in our communities, adding to Chicago's
4economic vitality and resilience; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Local business owners are stewards of our
6communities, providing quality jobs, engaging in civic
7concerns, and contributing to local non-profits; and
 
8    WHEREAS, A unique array of independent, locally-owned
9businesses preserves the culture and character of Chicago's
10neighborhoods and creates a stong sense of place; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Independent, locally-owned businesses help
12sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers that are
13essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and
14air and water pollution; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Independent, locally-owned businesses are
16committed to their communities, contributing to the local
17economy and responding to the needs of their community over
18many generations; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Local First Chicago has been promoting and
20supporting independent, locally-owned businesses throughout

1the City of Chicago for the past 8 years; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Local First Chicago has launched an exciting new
3campaign: "Eat, Drink & Buy Local 365", to promote these
4vibrant businesses year-round and to encourage Chicago
5citizens to shift $365 annually to independent, locally-owned
6businesses, resulting in nearly a $100 million positive impact
7in Chicago's local economy; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we do hereby recognize Local First Chicago's "Eat, Drink, & Buy
11Local 365" campaign and its lasting economic impact on the City
12of Chicago and encourage its citizens to support Chicago's
13locally-owned, independent businesses and choose the future
14they want to see with every purchase they make; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Local First Chicago as an expression of our esteem
18and respect.
