HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Promise Neighborhoods program was founded in
32010 on the premise of significantly improving the educational
4and developmental outcomes of children and youth in distressed
5communities by providing access to great schools and strong
6systems of community support to aid in the transition from
7childhood to career; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Promise Neighborhoods grant program consists
9of planning grants and implementation grants; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The United States Department of Education
11proposed to fund Promise Neighborhoods through the legislative
12authority of the Fund for the Improvement of Education Program
13in 2010; the level and allocation of planning and
14implementation funds are contingent upon each fiscal year's
15final budget; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Promise Neighborhoods grant program is
17expected to continue in 2013 with another round of applications
18and award winners; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we urge the Congress of the United States, the President of the

1United States, and the United States Department of Education to
2consider communities in this State, including communities in
3the City of Chicago, as Promise Neighborhoods and award grants
4as such; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
6delivered to the President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate, the
7Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, each member of
8the Illinois congressional delegation, the President of the
9United States, and the U.S. Secretary of Education.
