HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former
4Homewood Village President and State Representative Manny
5Hoffman of Homewood; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was born on February 22, 1937; he
7graduated from Hirsch High School in 1955; he was a long-time
8insurance agent with State Farm and owned and operated the
9Manny Hoffman State Farm Insurance Agency in Homewood; he was a
10lifetime member of the State Farm President's Club, an
11organization of the company's top 50 agents nationwide; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was well-known for his diverse and
13active career of service in the Homewood-Flossmor area; he was
14president of the Homewood-Flossmor Park District's board of
15commissioners, chairman of the Cook County Republican Party,
16and was on the board for the Cancer Support Center, Irons Oaks,
17and the Prairie State College Foundation; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was inducted into Homewood's Hall of
19Fame in October 2008; his first office was secretary of the
20village's volunteer fire department; he was village trustee
21from 1977 to 1985 and mayor from 1985 to 1991; and

1    WHEREAS, The Village of Homewood named a street Hoffman Way
2to honor his service; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman represented the 37th District in the
4Illinois General Assembly from 1991 to 1993; he was appointed
5to the Illinois Labor Relations Board by Gov. Jim Edgar in 1993
6and re-appointed to his fourth term as chairman by Gov. George
7H. Ryan; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman was preceded in death by his wife,
9Judy; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Manny Hoffman is survived by his children, Larry,
11Debbie, and Julie; and his grandson; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of former Homewood Village President and
15State Representative Manny Hoffman, and we extend our sincere
16condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Manny Hoffman as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
