HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert A.
4Wetzel of Edwardsville, who passed away on January 21, 2013;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was born on August 26, 1937, in
7Highland to Arthur L. and Violet V. (Scheibe) Wetzel; he
8married Carol Kemmerer on August 20, 1960, at Grace Methodist
9Church in Waterloo, Iowa; he graduated from Edwardsville High
10School in 1955, Monmouth College in 1959, and the University of
11Wisconsin School of Banking in 1972; he was a staff sergeant in
12the Illinois National Guard; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel worked at TheBANK of Edwardsville
14and moved his way up throughout the years; he started in 1960
15as a assistant cashier; he became vice-president and cashier in
161973, senior vice-president and cashier in 1976, and president
17in 1981, serving in that position for 22 years before retiring
18in August of 2004; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel always took an active role in the
20betterment of his community; he served on the board of the ABA
21Federal Bankpac; he was active with Backstoppers-The Policeman
22and Fireman Fund of Saint Louis, the Civic Entrepreneurs

1Organization, the Deaconess Foundation board of directors, the
2Edwardsville Central Business District Development and
3Improvement Committee, and the Edwardsville Community School
4District #7, treasurer; he served as past president of
5Edwardsville Jaycees, past president of Edwardsville/Glen
6Carbon United way, director of the Illinois Department of
7Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and on the Madison County
8Bankers Federation Executive Committee, the Saint Louis Sports
9Commission, the State Treasurer's Banking Advisory Committee,
10and on the Board Trails West Council of the Boy Scouts of
11America; and
 
12    WHEREAS, He was currently serving on the board of directors
13of the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois where he was
14the past president, the board of directors of Lewis & Clark
15Community College, and as chairman of the Advisory Committee of
16Madison County Metrolink Feasibility Study; he was a member of
17the board of directors of Madison Mutual Insurance Company, the
18Regional Commerce & Growth Association, The Edwardsville
19Rotary Club, SIU-E Foundation, SIU-E School of Business
20Advisory Board, The Alliance of Edwardsville & Glen Carbon
21Executive Council, TheBANK of Edwardsville board of directors,
22and the University Park SIU-E board of directors; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel has received numerous awards
24throughout the years including, the 100 Black Men of Alton

1Award for Outstanding Contributions and Support of Education,
2the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce Albert D.
3Cassens Award for Outstanding Achievement, the Anderson
4Hospital 7th Annual Founders Award, the Distinguished Eagle
5Scout Award, Edwardsville Rotary's International Service Above
6Self Award, the Leadership Council's 16th Annual Salute to
7Southwestern IL Award for Outstanding Leadership, the Monmouth
8College Distinguished Alumnus Award, the SIU-E Distinguished
9Service Award, the SIU-E Kimmel Award for Outstanding Community
10Service, and the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Lifetime Achievement
11award; he was a member of Eden United Church of Christ in
12Edwardsville; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel was preceded in death by his parents
14and his brother, Ronald Wetzel; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Robert Wetzel is survived by his wife, Carol; his
16daughter, Andrea (Russell) Wetzel-Darbon; his son Scott
17(Kristi) Wetzel; his grandchildren, Brawley (Lee) Darbon,
18Madison Olivia Darbon, Corbin Reid Wetzel, and Reagan Kate
19Wetzel; his brothers, Tom (Alice) Wetzel, Carl (Donna) Wetzel,
20and David (Jessica) Wetzel; and many nieces, nephews, and dear
21friends; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Robert Wetzel, and we extend our
2sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
3and loved him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Robert Wetzel as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
