HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor Reverend Joe Hubbard on
4his life's accomplishments as a friend to the poor, "miracle"
5worker, and advocate for justice; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard received his reputation for helping
7people early on when as a teenager he would cut grass for the
8elderly, clean up the local barber shop and a small
9confectionary across from Jefferson Grade School, and help out
10the handicapped man who sold papers in front of the school; he
11had begun a lifetime of caring for others, whether it be his
12family or anyone in need; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard became the youngest member of the
14"older men's" St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Angels
15Church, a group dedicated to helping families and which helped
16out his own family in their time of need; he would make
17reaching out to help the poor, aged, sick, dying, and anyone
18who needed his help into his life's calling; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 1973, Rev. Hubbard began serving as the
20coordinator of the newly-established Catholic Urban Programs,
21a position he is still at today; initially a one-man operation,
22it now boosts over 70 full-time and part-time employees who

1coordinate multiple ministries with the help of many
2volunteers; in his off-hours, he manages Mt. Carmel and Holy
3Cross Cemeteries; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard has earned numerous awards over the
5years; he was nominated for the national Lumen Christi (Light
6of Christ) Award presented by The Catholic Church Extension
7Society and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award
8from SIU-E; he won the coveted Leadership Award presented by
9FOCUS Saint Louis, and many, many others; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rev. Hubbard was born 67 years ago to Olga and
11Edward Hubbard; his siblings are Edward Jr., Johnny, and Doris;
12he attended Jefferson Grade School, Lansdowne Junior High
13School, East Saint Louis Senior High School, and Southern
14Illinois University; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we are pleased to honor Reverend Joe Hubbard life's
18accomplishments and wish him well in all of his future
19endeavours; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Reverend Joe Hubbard as an expression of our
22esteem and respect.
