HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Many thousands of Illinoisans have had their
3health insurance plans cancelled and many more thousands will
4soon face cancellation in 2014 as a direct result of the
5Affordable Care Act; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Many Illinois families that were forced into the
7Affordable Care Act health insurance exchange are now facing
8higher deductibles, higher premiums, and limited provider
9networks, or are forgoing insurance coverage altogether; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Some Illinois lawmakers are seeking to adopt a
11State-based health insurance exchange under the Affordable
12Care Act that could cost Illinoisans more than $100 million;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Illinois lawmakers are receiving generous
15taxpayer-funded health premium subsidies toward their Illinois
16State Employees' Group Insurance Program benefits; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Illinois lawmakers participating in the program
18may pay anywhere from $119 to $211 per month in Fiscal Year
192014 for their own coverage, which is a fraction of the true
20insurance coverage cost to taxpayers; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
3SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge any lawmaker who
4supports any further expansion of the Affordable Care Act in
5the State of Illinois to immediately forfeit his or her
6taxpayer-funded premium subsidy and voluntarily enroll in the
7Affordable Care Act health insurance exchange; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That we urge Illinois' elected senators and
10representatives to live by the same set of rules that they
11impose upon those they claim to represent.
