SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/21B-65

    Amends the Educator Licensure Article of the School Code. Provides that a Professional Educator License with a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards designation shall be automatically renewed for a period of time equal to the remaining period of validity of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. Effective July 1, 2013.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
521B-65 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/21B-65)
7    Sec. 21B-65. National Board for Professional Teaching
8Standards. Individuals holding certification issued by the
9National Board for Professional Teaching Standards shall be
10issued a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
11designation on an existing Professional Educator License. The
12designation shall be issued automatically and added to an
13individual's Professional Educator License, and individuals
14need not submit an application.
15    The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
16designation must be issued only for the same validity period as
17the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
18certification, and the designation must be removed from the
19Professional Educator License when the educator no longer holds
20the certification from the National Board for Professional
21Teaching Standards.
22    Notwithstanding any other provision of this Article or
23Article 21 of this Code, a Professional Educator License with a

2shall be automatically renewed for a period of time equal to
3the remaining period of validity of the National Board for
4Professional Teaching Standards certification.
5    Beginning on July 1, 2013, individuals holding an Illinois
6National Board for Professional Teaching Standards endorsement
7issued pursuant to the requirements of Section 21-2 of this
8Code must have a current certificate issued by the National
9Board for Professional Teaching Standards in order to maintain
10the Illinois National Board for Professional Teaching
11Standards endorsement.
12    Any individual who, on or after July 1, 2012, has been
13issued a Master Certificate pursuant to Section 21-2 of this
14Code or a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
15designation on a Professional Educator License pursuant to this
16Section may work as a teacher only in an area for which he or
17she holds the required Illinois endorsement. Any individual
18who, prior to June 30, 2012, has been issued an endorsement for
19a particular area on a Master Certificate may work as a teacher
20in that area even without having been issued the required
21Illinois endorsement.

23    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1,
