AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1815

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1815 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699 new)
7    Sec. 3-699. Diabetes Awareness license plates.
8    (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in
9the form prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special
10registration plates designated as Diabetes Awareness license
11plates. The special plates issued under this Section shall be
12affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division and
13motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
148,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section shall expire
15according to the multi-year procedure established by Section
163-414.1 of this Code.

1    (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the
2discretion of the Secretary of State. The Secretary, in his or
3her discretion, may allow the plates to be issued as vanity or
4personalized plates under Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The
5Secretary shall prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
6Section 3-412 of this Code.
7    (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a
8$40 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
9registration fee. Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the
10Diabetes Research Checkoff Fund and $15 shall be deposited into
11the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be used
12by the Secretary to help defray the administrative processing
13costs.
14    For each registration renewal period, a $27 fee, in
15addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged.
16Of this fee, $25 shall be deposited into the Diabetes Research
17Checkoff Fund and $2 shall be deposited into the Secretary of
18State Special License Plate Fund.".
