SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bobbie Johnson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bobbie Johnson was a well-known community
5activist; she served as the 3rd Ward Republican committeewoman
6and is known for her unwavering fight to preserve the
7Rosenwald, also known as the Michigan Boulevard Garden
8Apartments, on 47th Street in Chicago; she used many of her
9resources to seek funding for many trips, leadership
10conferences, and outings for youth in the Bronzeville
11community; she also hosted many community events and other
12programs that gave youth and residents of the area a sense of
13being and purpose; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bobbie Johnson was the president and founder of
15Race to Knowledge and the Cybertech Teen Cafe; she was the
16founder of Save the Rosenwald Coalition and creator of many
17programs, including the Art Zone Literacy Program for Youth;
18she was also the president of Black Wall Street Chicago - 47th
19Street and a member of the Daughters of Isis, the Order of the
20Eastern Star, and the Elks; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bobbie Johnson was the beloved mother of Larissa,
22Allen Jr. (Melanie), Rafael (Rachel), Tasha, and Erskine; the

1dearest sister of Bertha Mae White, Lucius Smart, and James
2Leggins; and the grandmother of Sondai Adjei, Shania, Allen III
3(Trey), Nathaniel, and Nakir; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6his family and friends, the passing of Bobbie Johnson; and be
7it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Bobbie Johnson as an expression of
10our sympathy.
