SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Martha Francis Jones, who passed away on
4October 19, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martha Jones was born on August 31, 1938; her
6parents were Era and Robert Gavins; she married Harry L.
7Woodard in 1958; she later married Maurice E. Jones on
8September 1, 1975; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Martha Jones attended Lockport High School and
10graduated from Dudley Beauty College as a licensed
11cosmetologist; in 1996, she graduated from Midwest Apostolic
12Bible College with a bachelor's degree in Christian education;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Martha was baptized in August of 1980 at the
15Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church, under the pastorate of
16Bishop D. Rayford Bell; she received the Holy Ghost that same
17month and remained a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Faith
18Church until her passing; she served in many capacities at
19Christ Temple, including Sunday School teacher, member of the
20Missionary Choir, director of the Missionary Choir,
21Amalgamated Choir member, cook, Noon-Day Prayer Chairman, and
22Pastor's Aide Chairman; she enjoyed coming to the church at 6

1AM to prepare breakfast for the saints; she also served as a
2professor for sign language, hermeneutics, and Romans at
3Midwest Apostolic Bible College while working as a stylist for
4saints all over Chicago and Indiana; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martha Jones was preceded in death by her parents;
6her 2 brothers; and her sister; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Martha Jones is survived by her devoted husband,
8Elder Maurice E. Jones; her son, Kenneth L. Woodard, Sr.; her
9daughter-in-law, Delphine A. Woodard; her granddaughter,
10Akesta (Andrew) Hoskins; her grandsons, Kenneth L. (Gloria)
11Woodard, Kelly L. (Shawntel) Woodard, and Korey L. Woodard; her
128 great-grandchildren; her step-daughter, Gwendolyn Jackson;
13her sisters, Eva Polk, Betty Smith, and Betty Hill; her
14brother, John Phillips; her special daughter, Elaine (Joe)
15Robison; her goddaughter, Tiffinae Hunt-Reeves; her close
16friends, Savana Milton, Lourene Miller, and Brenda Jackson; and
17her many nieces, nephews, other relatives, fellow saints, and
18friends; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21her family and friends, the passing of Martha Francis Jones;
22and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Martha Jones as an expression of our
3sympathy.
