SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Michel A. McCord of Peoria, who passed
4away on October 18, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michel McCord was born on June 5, 1944, in Peoria;
6he was the son of Robert and Victoria McCord; he married Judith
7Kay McKenzie on August 26, 1967, in Texas; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Michel McCord graduated from Peoria High School in
91962; he subsequently earned his bachelor's degree in business
10administration with a major in finance and insurance from the
11University of Arizona in 1967; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Michel McCord earned the designation of chartered
13life underwriter in 1974; he served as president of Illinois
14Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1983 to 2010 and was the CEO
15and chairman of the company's board since 1990; during his
1645-year career, he served as director, manager, and vice
17president before being named to his most recent role; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Michel McCord was a distinguished member of the
19Peoria community and was well known for his dedication to
20community service; he served on the board for several
21organizations, including the Bradley University Board of

1Trustees, most recently serving as chairman of the board; he
2served on the board of the Central Illinois Chapter of the
3American Red Cross, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and the
4Heart of Illinois United Way; he was a member of the Peoria
5Country Club, the Creve Coeur Club, and the Rotary Club of
6Peoria; he was a past member and chair of Arts Partners, the
7Economic Development Council for the Peoria area, the Hult
8Health Education Center, and the Peoria Area Community
9Foundation; he was a past member of the Bradley University
10Business Council, the Country Club of Peoria Board of
11Governors, the District 150 Financial Advisory Committee, the
12Eureka College Board of Trustees, the Peoria Area Chamber of
13Commerce, the Peoria Neighborhood Commission, and the YWCA
14Advisory Council; he was also a past president of the Bradley
15Chief's Club; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Michel McCord was the recipient of numerous
17community awards, including the Tom Connor Distinguished
18Service Award, the Cancer Center for Healthy Living
19Distinguished Service Award, the Salvation Army William Booth
20Award, the "Others" Award, the Mission Award, the YWCA Legend
21Award, and the Red Cross Good Citizen Hero Award; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Michel McCord was preceded in death by his
23parents; and

1    WHEREAS, Michel McCord is survived by his wife of 45 years,
2Judith; his children, Molly (Corey) Martin, Scott (Heather),
3Katie (Thomas) Jenkins, Melanie (Michael) Behling, and Mitzi
4(Robert) Demeter; his grandchildren, Connor, Michel, Tyler,
5and Emma Kay Martin, Meyer McCord, McKenzie and Hannah Behling,
6and Matthew "Mac" Jenkins; his sisters, Robin (Thomas) Groom
7and Melissa (James) Metternich; and his many nieces and
8nephews; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11his family and friends, the passing of Michel A. McCord; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Michel McCord as an expression of
15our sympathy.
